Experience

PCA is one of the first practices of its kind in the state of Maryland and has been successfully treating patients since 1972.  We have “written the book” on how a group practice should operate.  Our combination of therapists, with diverse skills and areas of specialization, allows us to treat a wider range of patients with great success.  Our team of highly trained professionals brings years of professional experience and expertise in the latest therapeutic methodologies to the office each day.  The current clinical, as well as the clerical staff, have been together for over ten years.  This stability serves as a model of dependency and consistency to our patients and we value it with high regard.

Expertise

Our team of clinicians has been selectively grouped for their expertise, experience, and ability to connect with others.  While all of us are trained and skilled in treating the more general disorders such as anxiety and depression, we have individual areas of specialization that include specific concerns such as:

  • Panic and Phobias
  • Bipolar Disorders
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD)
  • Anger and Impulse Control Problems
  • Grief
  • Hyperactivity and Attention Deficit Disorders
  • Personality Disorders
  • Couples and Family Problems
  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Dependence

We work with individuals of all age ranges, from small children to senior citizens. Should a need arise for the use of formal, psychological testing, our library of testing resources is complete and our psychologists are available and trained to complete these assessments.

Diversity

Our therapists vary in age, race and gender, again providing you with choice and a comfort level.  Our diversity also influences the treatment methods used by each clinician.  We differ in the focus of our sessions, with some therapists treating individuals, while others specialize in couples and families.  The therapeutic modalities our clinicians use are varied and are explained in greater detail under Services.  For example, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rationally Emotive Therapy (RET) are used by some specialists, while others use psycho-dynamic approaches such as Object Relations and Jungian perspectives.  Choice of a particular therapeutic modality should not be a concern to you since there are more similarities than differences in these approaches.  Our office will help you choose the therapist best suited to meet your needs.  Your therapist, in turn, will make a treatment decision based on your individual needs.

Dependability

You can count on PCA, and me, as President of the practice, to do what we promise. We:

  • will take care of your insurance claim forms and all billing will be accurate
  • have an emergency telephone service should you need to contact your therapist after hours
  • provide a safe and comfortable environment
  • maintain privacy at all times
  • have a convenient and well lighted parking area

Recognition

PCA has been selected as a training facility for doctoral students in psychology attending LOYOLA UNIVERSITY in Baltimore and THE AMERICAN SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY in Virginia.  Being selected for this distinction reflects the high quality of our clinicians and their expertise in a wide variety of therapeutic modalities as well as the privilege of being respected by our colleagues.
